The LeRoy Fire District was dispatched at just after midnight this morning for house fire. First arriving chiefs and law enforcement officers found heavy fire from the A side of the two story, with everyone out of the structure. Cries to save the house could be heard down the dark street from the distressed homeowner over the crackling of the fire and the chatter on the radios.
Engine 63 arrived and stretched two attack lines while Quint 65 laddered the building and began ventilation efforts. These efforts resulted in a quick knockdown and contained the fire to the front of the dwelling, although heavy smoke conditions were evident throughout the structure.
A FAST team was summoned from the Town of Batavia, while mutual aid was requested from Pavilion, Caledonia, and Bergen. The Stafford Fire Department filled in at LFD.
One firefighter was treated and transported for minor injuries to UMMC in Batavia by City of Batavia Paramedics. Three civilians were transported from the residence by LeRoy Paramedics, one of them being in guarded condition from second and third degree burns he sustained while attempting to re-enter the structrue to retrieve his keys.
The Genesee County Emergency Management Office and the Genesee County Sheriff's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
