Two Fort Worth firefighters were injured after being trapped by falling debris on Monday.

Units were dispatched to an automatic sprinkler alarm at the Cotton Depot Apartments at 8:59 a.m. Arriving two minutes later, Lt. Kent Worley said units found fire in the attic area of the four-story condominium building.

The fire was being held in place by the automatic sprinkler system as crews deployed hoselines to knock down the fire.

As the firefighters were searching for extension, two firefighters were briefly trapped under debris that fell inside the building. They were quickly freed.

The two firefighters, ages 26 and 47, were transported to area hospitals and release later that day.

Thirteen fire companies and three battalion chiefs responded to the fire, which was declared under control at 9:54 a.m.

According to Lt. Worley, one apartment suffered extensive damage while 40 others received fire control damage.
