On April 20 at 6:35 p.m., the Osage Beach, Mo. Fire District was dispatched to a structure fire at the Compass Point Condominiums, 1109 Red Bud Road.
The first alarm assignment consisted of Osage Beach Engines 122, 112 and an Osage Beach Chief Officer and Lake Ozark Ladder 21.
The crew of Engine 112 reported smoke visible while enroute, confirming a working fire. Upon hearing this, the duty chief requested an additional engine from Mid-County Fire. The four-story condominium had fire and smoke showing from the balcony on the fourth floor.
Firefighters established their own water supply by laying a five-inch line. Ladder 21's crew immediately took position directly in front of the fire building and prepared for aerial operations.
The duty chief assumed command of fire ground operations. By this time, the fire was extending through an area separation wall and to lower balconies. Additional personnel arrived and Divisions 3 and 2 were quickly assigned. The fire spread was aided by a 15 to 20 mph wind.
Since the fire was in an area separation wall, crews had to remove building material from both side of the wall to ensure the fire was contained. The fire was declared under control within an hour.
The Osage Beach Fire Marshal and the Missouri State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
