On Monday morning August 23rd, 2004, at approximately 0040 hours, the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an electrical fire. Police, first on location, reported a structure fire with flames coming out the front windows.
All residents had evacuated the building. The Brighton Volunteer Fire Department responded and requested mutual aid from the Sheridan Park Volunteer Fire Department, Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department, Ellwood Volunteer Fire Department and Kenmore Volunteer Fire Department. The mutual aid companies provided the F.A.S.T. Team, cascade system as well as additional manpower. The Town of Tonawanda Police Department Emergency Medical Unit was put on standby at the scene for potential firefighter injuries and firefighter rehab.
The fire is still being investigated, however it is believed that a living room lamp caught fire spreading to some curtains then engulfing the home.
