On Feb. 12, the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department in Ohio was called out on a structure fire at the Dresden Feed & Supply shortly after 10:30 p.m.
The entire three-story building was quickly engulfed in flames. Between 50 and 60 firefighters from five area departments battled the blaze - Dresden, Frazeysburg, Muskingum Township, Falls Township and Zanesville. Two ladder trucks were used in the fire supression. Within an hour, the fire was knocked. The scene was cleared at 5 a.m.
While the building was a total loss, the DVFD considers operations a success. Pre-planning discussions had raised concerns about the fire quickly spreading to neighboring structures. However, the quick reaction of the crews resulted in only minor siding damage to the adjacent structure, and some water damage in a neighboring basement.
No injuries were reported. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, the third fire to strike the small town of 2,000 people since New Year's Day.
The Dresden Feed & Supply was originally built in the mid-1800s in Adams Mills. It was dismantled and moved to its present location in Dresden in 1900. The owners plan to rebuild.
