Firefighters from the West Orange, NJ Fire Dept. fought a stubborn garbage truck fire on a hot July day. Upon arrival, flames were coming from the rear of the truck. SCBA was worn because of the unknown combustibles inside the truck. Overhead wires were the only exposure problem.
The fire was finally extinguished when the truck driver was able to restart the engine and dump the load just prior to the hydraulic lines burned through.
