Gwinnett County Firefighters respond to multiple 911 calls from neighbors reporting a house fire on 3616 Suwanee Creek Court in Suwanee at approximately 9:39 pm on July 19, 2004. Upon Arrival, firefighters observed a large two-story wood frame single-family dwelling on a basement with heavy flames showing through the roof and from windows on the first and second levels.
Engine-13 was first due and laid large-diameter hose down the driveway from a hydrant in the cul-de-sac for a supply line. The house sat approximately 200 yards or more off the roadway. Additional apparatus was staged on the street in the cul-de-sac as firefighters were forced to walk to the scene carrying hand tools, lights, air bottles, hoses, and deluge guns. The heavily wooded driveway was too steep and narrow to get a Ladder Truck in position for aerial operations.
Multiple hand-lines were deployed and several deluge guns were being operated at the height of the fire. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at approximately 11:05 pm. A total of 4-engine companies, 1-ladder company, 2-squads, 1-rescue, 2-battalion chiefs, Rehab-Unit, and several support personnel were dispatched to the scene.
The home was not occupied at the time of the fire. The family has been out of the country for approximately one-year. They are scheduled to return home on July 20, 2004. No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the night and investigators were requested. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The house is approximately 3500-4000 square feet and is considered a total loss.
