The City of Passaic in New Jersey battled a four-alarm Fire that occurred early Tuesday, Dec. 16. Apparently 12 employees who worked at the Procesadora De Carnes y Alimentos, a locally owner meat market, reported the fire at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Firefighters quickly went to work on the blaze but due to a very intense fire inside, they were evacuated. Shortly after that, the building's roof collapsed. Firefighters switched to exterior attacks from aerial ladders dumping as much water as they could on this blaze.
Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost said that due to the walk-in refrigerator, the fire remained hidden and made internal attacks unproductive. He did express concern that the building will continue to collapse. Only three minor injuries were reported to firefighters.
