Seven southeast Wisconsin fire departments were called to a house fire during the early morning hours of June 30th, 2010.
At 4:14 a.m. the Somers Fire Department was dispatched to a passerby's report of flames shooting from a home at 535 Greenbay Rd.
While fire units were enroute a Kenosha County Sheriff's Deputy arrived at the location and notified dispatch that the home was fully involved, which was passed on to incoming fire units.
The first Somers Fire unit on scene, Engine 6311, reported a fully-involved, unoccupied, two-story house with arching power lines in front and set up for tanker operations.
Assistant Chief Loren Tolnai arrived on scene shortly after the first engine and requested a MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Tanker Box Alarm, which brought firefighters from Kenosha, Paris, Pleasant Prairie, Bristol, Union Grove and the South Shore to the incident.
It took firefighters more than an hour to bring the blaze under control, and several hours afterward to completely extinguish hot spots in the collapsed structure.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff's department, the home had been unoccupied for more than a year; plans to renovate the building were being worked on at the time of the fire, though no one had been at the home for more than a month.
According to fire officials, the house was a total loss.
