CHICAGO: On Sunday Jan. 21, the Englewood Fire Alarm Office (E.F.A.O) Dispatched a Still Alarm for a report of a House Fire with people trapped to 5700 block of Laflin Between 57th & 58th Streets.
The Office Dispatched the alarm as a Still & Box after there were multiple calls and reports of people trapped in the fire building.
When firefighters from Engine Co. 116 arrived, they reported that they were on the scene with a fire and attempted to start a search. Upon a primary search of the fire building, Squad Company #5 members made a rescue of a 2-year-old child from the structure and the other injured family member was able to self evacuate from the building. There were a total of 12 family members in the building at the time of the fire and all were able to exit the building except the two victims that were injured. The two injured victims were transported by CFD EMS yellow to the hospital (Non-Life Threatening).
Offensive attack on the fire was terminated per DDC-5 upon review of fire conditions and Command went Defensive on this fire. The fire was brought under control in about an hour and a half using several handlines, E116's Deck gun and a Tower Ladder.
The cause of the fire was determined to be careless use of a space heater. The structure was a total loss.
