Maryland Crews Tackle Strip Mall Blaze

Firefighters from Branchville, Berwyn Heights and surrounding communities made quick work of a fire that damaged a College Park, MD. carryout.

At about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, Fire/EMS units were dispatched to the J. S. Grille located at 9913 Rhode Island Avenue and encountered a one-story strip mall with heavy smoke showing from the store.

Firefighters advanced hoselines into the structure and discovered a kitchen fire. The fire was extinguished within five minutes and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and fire loss is estimated at about $50,000.
