Firefighters from the New Jersey city of Perth Amboy were dispatched at 6 a.m. to the corner of Convery Blvd. and Sayre Ave. for a structure fire.
Arriving firefighters were met with a large one-story commercial structure believed to be a cabinet factory with heavy fire throughout.
Incident command immediately called a second alarm assignment to the scene, bringing in mutual aid from South Amboy and Carteret Fire Departments. Shortly after, command requested a third alarm assignment to the scene due to low water pressure in the area, which was hampering firefighting efforts.
Numerous master streams via hand lines and tower ladders were put into operation, but were no match for the fire and it quickly consumed the entire building.
Firefighters began getting the upper-hand on the fire about two hours into the incident. A large EMS presence was on hand to provide rehab to the firefighters along with the Red Cross, due to the extremely cold weather.
The large smoke column emanating from the fire could be seen for miles.
The fire was brought under control at around 8:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Perth Amboy Police Department.
