Washington D.C. firefighters battled a two alarm blaze in the predawn hours of Tuesday, Jan. 22 that destroyed a two a story commercial building in the city's Glover Park neighborhood.
A box alarm assignment arrived at JP's nightclub at 2412 Wisconsin Avenue N.W. around 3:30 a.m. to find heavy smoke in the structure and the owner trapped on the roof. He was quickly rescued.
Searching for the seat of the blaze, units eventually discovered flames burning in a room behind the bar. However, fire was already spreading both horizontally and vertically.
Firefighters waged an interior attack for approximately 40 minutes until fire burst through the roof and the evacuation order was given. A master stream attack was instituted in order to bring the incident under control
Ten engines, five trucks, two heavy rescues, three battalions, the Operations Deputy, and an air unit were called to scene. The Friendship Fire Association buff club manned the department's rehab and canteen units.
