Seven firefighters were injured Saturday, Jan. 5 at a working apartment fire at 561 Homestead in Alban Park.
New Castle County firefighters and paramedics along with firefighters from the Wilmington Fire Department responded to the fire at 7:30 a.m.
Six New Castle County volunteer firefighters were trapped in the second floor of the burning two-story duplex apartment building and were rescued by the City of Wilmington Fire Departments RIT 4 man team from Engine one.
Seven New Castle County firefighters were transported to the Christiana Hospital with injuries ranging from burns, a fractured wrist, shortness of breath, and chest pains, another firefighter was hurt when a ladder hit his arm.
Over 70 firefighters and paramedics from Five Points, Elsmere, Minquas, Belvedere, Cranston Heights, Mill Creek, Minquadale, Wilmington Fire Department and New Castle County Paramedics fought the blaze which was brought under control at 8:25 a.m. by Chief Hayes of Five Points Fire Company.
