The City of New London Fire Department responded to 40 Truman Street last on Jan 1, just before midnight for a report of a building fire.
They had multiple calls and the police department on scene reporting heavy fire. On the arrival of the battalion chief, a working fire was struck.
Units had fire out every window on the A Side of the building on arrival. Units made an aggressive interior attack to start, but were forced to go defensive. A Second Alarm was struck and A-25, the City's 2007 Seagrave Tiller, put its master stream into operation, along with two additional hand lines to knock down the bulk of the fire.
Units made a second attempt to knock down the reaming fire in the cockloft, but where forced once again to go to defensive operations. High winds and freezing temperatures hindered operations. The tower ladder was put into operation knocking down the remaining fire.
Companies overhauled and the fire was under control in about one hour. The department had all units operating at this Job, Sub Base C-25 as the FAST team, and The town of Waterford provided coverage for the city. Group 2 was on duty under the direction the second Battalion and Group 1 was the second alarm call group.
