South Carolina Firefighters Battle Two Simultaneously Burning Homes On Sunday
Fires damaged two Bluffton-area homes Sunday morning, as firefighters worked to fight flames in two separate but nearly simultaneous blazes.
The first began at 6:13 a.m. in Moss Creek, and though firefighters were told the occupants were still inside, they found no one there when they arrived, said Donn Hicks, public information officer for the Bluffton Township Fire District.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames, and the blaze damaged only the home's kitchen and attic, Hicks said.
Just a few minutes later, the Bluffton fire district had another call, this time to a house in Colleton River Plantation.
Hicks said about 20 firefighters worked for five hours, but couldn't save the approximately 4,500-square-foot home. The family that lived in the house was out of town, Hicks said, and no one was injured.
The causes of the fires are under investigation.
