Dodge Burns on Illinois Highway

Almost midnight on Oct. 1, Elgin Fire Department received a call of a car fire on the Illinois Tollway (I90) at mile marker 23.

Upon arrival, I noticed a black Dodge Durango on the opposite side of traffic that appeared to be smoking heavily. Moments after the first chief's arrival, the vehicle exploded.

Traffic had to be shut down on the westbound side periodically. It took 15 minutes to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries.
