Amherst, N.Y. Restaurant Burns

Chief requested a second alarm.

A popular Chinese restaurant in the Buffalo suburb of Amherst, N.Y. sustained more than $750,000 damage on Sept. 15.

Flames were reported coming from Chang's Garden Restaurant, 938 Maple Road, just before 5 a.m.

Getzville Fire Chief Irv Isenberg requested a second alarm within just 11 minutes, as flames were extending through a dormer on the west side of the building as well as the point where the restaurant adjoins the remainder of the sprawling plaza.

Also responding were East Amherst, Williamsville, Snyder, Eggertsville and North Bailey. Ellicott Creek provided standby coverage.
