Former New York Factory Goes Up in Flames

Firefighters from the Oneonta Fire Department in Oneonta, N.Y. provided mutual aid to a fire on Aug. 24 in Sidney, N.Y. The fire happened at a building that housed an auto repair shop. The site was also being used for storage.

Firefighters from at least 10 departments reported to the blaze. The six-member Oneonta crew ran into a problem about two-thirds of the way into their 20-mile trip to the fire. Their truck - a 1987 Baker 95 foot Aerial Platform, blew a tire.

The fire was started by two teenagers who had been smoking cigars and then left them in a cardboard box. The fire started at around 6 p.m. It was out by the next morning. After the fire was extinguished, the building was demolished.

No one was injured in the blaze.
