Units of the San Jose Fire Department assisted by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and the City of Santa Clara Fire Department battled a four-alarm blaze that broke out in a two-story, multi-unit residential structure at 1665 Brookvale Drive at 5:46 p.m. on Aug 29.
The first unit to arrive on scene reported juniper bushes burning on the exterior of the building with extension to the structure. A second-alarm was immediately transmitted for fire sweeping through the attic of the structure.
Heavy fire conditions forced San Jose Fire Battalion Chief Gary Weekley (B10A) to transition to a defensive operation. With several hand lines stretched, two aerial master streams were deployed.
The fire was contained in less than two hours with between six and nine units suffering damage. One San Jose firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital.
There were no additional reports of injuries, but a number of residents were displaced and required assistance from the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
