An early morning four-alarm fire April 4 swept through a large two-story commercial structure in San Jose. Later, a man's body was found inside the building.
Units of the San Jose Fire Department, under the direction of Battalion Chief Juan Diaz (B29C), responded to 850 Faulstich Court on San Jose's northeast side just before 5 a.m.
Arriving units discovered a rapidly advancing fire that eventually led to the collapse of a portion of the roof. It was quickly determined that interior operations would not be possible due to the intensity of the blaze.
Firefighters assumed a defensive posture unleashing multiple master streams and protecting exposures.
While vacating the structure members of San Jose Fire's Urban Search and Rescue team (USAR 5) discovered a man inside a car within the burning structure.
The subject was immediately removed from the building, but attempts to resuscitate him failed leading paramedics to declare the subject deceased at the scene.
