On Saturday, March 23, Wicomico County Central alerted the Salisbury Fire Department (Stations 2, 16 and 1) to a house fire in the 200 block of South Brookdale Drive. Central also reported that the fire was in the living room and that all occupants were reported to be out of the house.
Paramedic 2 arrived first and reported heavy fire showing from all sides of the single family home. Engine 161 arrived, and the crew stretched the initial handline to enter from the rear. Engine 210 followed with the backup line. Ten minutes into the interior attack, the crews were withdrawn from the building and directed to use defensive operations. Station 6 (Parsonsburg) was also called to assist.
In a little over 30 minutes, the fire was placed under control. Companies remained on the scene for approximately two hours overhauling and assisting investigators.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal has investigated the incident, which is believed to have been caused by an overheated electrical outlet.
There were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries. The fire displaced three adults and two children and caused $120,000 in damage.
