More than two dozen families were displaced after a three-alarm fire early Sunday morning at a Laurel apartment complex.
Just after 2 a.m., citizens ran into the Laurel Rescue Squad, telling personnel about an apartment building on fire only a block away in the 14800 block of Bowie Road.
Firefighters arrived at Laurel Pines Apartments to find heavy fire showing from the second and third floors of a three-story garden style building. Two additional alarms were sounded bringing over 100 firefighters to battle the fire for almost 45 minutes before the fire was placed under control.
The fire heavily damaged three buildings leaving over 75 people homeless. Two people were injured, a resident suffered minor smoke inhalation and a firefighter who sustained a minor cut to his hand.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
