In Ringgold, Georgia on Thursday, June 28, at 5:45 pm. Ringgold/Catoosa County and Fort Oglethorpe firefighters were alerted of a house fire on Holcomb Road near the intersection of Boynton Drive.
Catoosa County Engine 1 arrived on the scene in minutes, followed by Tanker 11. Firefighters quickly reported heavy involvement to a single story residential structure. Fire crews pulled an inch and 3/4 hose line and started a primary attack through a side door. With heavy fire in the front of the house, firefighters were working to keep the fire in check while additional crews arrived.
Fort Oglethorpe Engine 8 arrived, followed by Engine 3. The crew quickly set up to lay a supply hose from a hydrant a short distance away on Boynton Drive. Engine 8's crew immediately pulled an additional hose line and started a secondary attack through the rear of the structure.
With the primary and secondary crews working inside, they were able to keep the fire from moving any further. A third hose line was also put in service at the front of the house to create a cross attack on the flames.
The firefighters' efforts paid off as the blaze was quickly brought under control. The home sustained heavy fire damage. Crews ventilated the hot gassy smoke from the structure quickly to keep from damaging any belongings that were remaining. Crews also continued to knock down several hot spots for about 30 minutes before the fire was completely extinguished.
A woman and a baby were at home when the fire broke out, and escaped unharmed. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family. Other agencies responding included paramedics with Hutcheson EMS, Catoosa County sheriff's office and the Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department chaplain.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
