Elmont, New York Firefighters Find Heavy Fire And Smoke Coming From Two Story Dwelling
On June 13, 2004 the Elmont Fire Department was alerted for a reported house fire on Baylis Avenue in the Long Island community.
Upon arrival at the scene Chief Ed Lutz and 1st Assistant Chief John Urbanowicz encountered heavy fire and smoke from the second floor of the dwelling. A Signal 10 was immediately transmitted.
Elmont FD responded with numerous units including 4 engines, a ladder company, heavy rescue and ambulances.
Mutual aid was requested from Floral Park and Franklin Square/Munson Fire Departments.
After a difficult battle, the fire was brought under control, confining serious damage to the second floor of the dwelling.
There was one minor civilian injury. The civilian had apparently jumped from the second floor to escape the intense flames.
