A firefighter with the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department was injured on Nov. 18 while battling a house fire in Mt. Rainer, MD
Around 12:30 a.m., fire units from Bunker Hill, Riverdale, Hyattsville and surrounding fire departments were called to the 3700 block of 37th Street for a house on fire
When fire units arrived on the scene they reported heavy fire showing from all floors and roof area of a two-story single-family dwelling.
Firefighters tried to make a fast and aggressive attack on the fire, but due to heavy fire conditions and the roof collapsing they were ordered out of the house and had to attack the fire from the outside.
According to Mark Brady, public information officer for the Prince George's County Fire Department, it took firefighters over an hour to bring the fire under control.
The fire burned so intensely that homes on either side sustained damage from the radiant heat.
The firefighter who was injured sustained a burn injury and was taken to a local burn unit where he was treated and released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire loss is estimated at $300,000.
