At about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, firefighter/medics from the Mount Rainier area were alerted to a house fire. Crews responded to 3708 37th St. and encountered a vacant two-and-a-half story single family home with heavy fire and smoke showing.
Due to the heavy fire load and unsafe conditions, firefighters maintained an exterior position while initially battling this fire. The fire burned so intensely that homes on either side sustained damage from the radiant heat.
There were 45 firefighters and paramedics on the scene. It took them about two hours to completely extinguish the fire.
One firefighter sustained a burn injury and was taken to a local burn unit where he was treated and released. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire loss is estimated at $300,000.
