Teen Dies in Vermont House Fire

A 17-year-old male was also injured in the fire.

RICHFORD, VT. -- On May 18, at about 10:05 p.m., the Richford Fire Department was called out to a house fire with two people trapped on the second floor. Upon arrival of the first due engine, heavy smoke and flames were showing.

Two teenagers were trapped on the second floor where rescuers pulled them from a window. A 16-year-old from Vermont, spending the night at a friend's house, died from her injuries suffered in the fire.

A 17-year-old male who suffered with severe burns was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, VT. He is in guarded condition. Mutual aid companies dispatched included Sutton QC, Enosburg and Berkshire. Richford, Enosburg and Montgomery ambulances also responded.

Two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
