On March 24, 2007 at 11:13 p.m. the Wicomico County 911 Center alerted Station 5 (Hebron) for a motor vehicle accident with rescue at Nanticoke Road and Firetower Road. Second Assistant Chief 5-19 (W. Zittle) arrived in his private vehicle and found a two vehicle head-on collision with entrapment in each vehicle. Chief 5-15 (D Beach) arrived and established "Nanticoke Road Command".
As Rescue Pumper 501 arrived, it's crew began to set up for an intensive extrication. Command requested Rescue 16 (Salisbury) to respond and assist with the extrication. Maryland State Police Aviation (Trooper 4) also made a response. The driver of the Hyundai Accent was extricated within 10 minutes and transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, in Salisbury. The other vehicle, a Ford Expedition was down an embankment and had major damage to the front driver’s side. The driver was trapped for about 30 minutes and once extricated, was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center as well.
Nanticoke Road was shut down for about one hour during the incident.
