On the Morning of March 1st 2007 The Dewey Fire Company along with surrounding mutual aid stations was dispatched to the 1000 block of Main Street for a Structure Fire. Crews arrived to heavy smoke coming from the building, crews made entry into a heavily charged structure and was confronted by heavy fire conditions. Crews where forced to evacuate the building and fight the fire from the outside. The fire eventually broke through the roof of the three story building.
The heavy smoke that filled the small town forced the evacuation of a neighboring nursing home for a short time. Crews used there heaviest water lines on all sides of the building stretching the towns water system to the max. After several hours of fighting the heavy fire and smoke the fire was finally brought under control. The fire destroyed a thrift store on the first floor, and several apartments on the second and third floors.
Fire crews remained on scene for 24 hours monitoring hotspots and making sure no rekindles occured. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshalls office along with local agencies are investigating the cause and no injuries where reported.
