On Saturday February 17, 2007 the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department (Station 7) was alerted for a motor vehicle accident with injuries, in front of their quarters, at the intersection of Gumboro Road and Railroad Avenue. Crews arrived to find the results of a two vehicle head on collision. A Nissan Quest had overturned and collided with a concrete wall of the Pittsville Car Wash. The other vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, traveled another 40 feet and came to rest almost inside one of the wash bays.
The driver of the Corolla was removed from the vehicle with the department's Hurst extrication tools. Command 7-15 (Mark Bratten) requested additional ambulances from Willards (Station 8) and Parsonsburg (Station 6). A total of four patients were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for treatment. Fire Police from Station 7 controlled traffic along Gumboro Road during the alarm.
