Shortly before 2 a.m. on February 12, 2007 Deptford Twp. N.J. Fire fighters were dispatched to a building fire at the Delsea Plaza on Rt. 47, Delsea Drive. Battalion Chief 2, Rick Thomas was first on location and he reported that there were smoke and fire showing from Frank's Pizza which was located in a row of seven stores in a strip mall. He immediately requested that a 2nd alarm be struck and that all companies were to go In Service with their heaviest water lines.
The fire had spread to the adjoining businesses of a Commercial Laundromat and a Hair and Nail Salon. Fire fighters made an aggressive interior attack but were driven out due to the heavy fire conditions. Chief Thomas requested a 3rd alarm followed by a 4th alarm. Companies were now using Master Streams and Ladder Pipes trying to stop the spread of the fire. Fire fighters were able to open the roof up making a Trench Cut enabling them to stop the spread of fire to the other four businesses. The Laundromat and Pizza Parlor were heavily damaged and the Hair and Nail Salon were partially damaged.
Temperatures were in the low teens as fire fighters battled the blaze which took about an hour and a half to control. The fire is Under Investigation by the Fire Marshall's Office.
