Just before 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 firefighters from the San Jose Fire Department responded to a report of fire in a restaurant at 1132 S. De Anza Blvd., on the city's west side.
Upon their arrival first due Engine Company 15B discovered heavy fire conditions with flames through the roof of a multi-unit strip mall. Within minutes a second and third-alarms were called to contend with the rapidly spreading blaze.
As the fire progressed incident commander (BC Ivan Lee) and operations chief (BC Jim Stunkel) called for a defensive operation including the deployment of two ladder pipes, multiple hand lines, at least one portable monitor, and Engine 10's deck gun.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single structure while protecting exposures, one to the east (C-side) and one to the south (D-side), from sustaining any damage. The fire was determined to be under control just over two hours after the first units arrived on scene.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
