On Sunday, February 4, 2007 at approximately 03:02 a.m. Salisbury Fire Department Stations 1, 2 and 16 were alerted for a structure fire on Powhatan Boulevard in the Indian Village area. Assistant Chief 1 (Gladwell) was first arriving unit and reported heavy fire showing from the "C" and "D" sides of the private dwelling. Engine 210 arrived shortly after and was assigned suppression duties.
The crew of Engine 16 was provided a backup line for Engine 210's crew while the crews of Engine 11 and Reserve Engine 1 handled water supply. Upon the arrival of Truck 16, its crew went to work opening the roof. Due to adverse conditions the attack crews were not able to reach the fire room and Assistant Chief Gladwell halted the interior attack.
Strategy was adjusted and crews then made a defensive attack through a window over the porch on the "D" side while the crew of Reserve Engine 1 utilized their deck gun to direct a stream through a dormer window on the "A" side. After all visible fire was extinguished crews then focused their efforts on salvage and overhaul. Engine 507 (Hebron) was called in to assist with overhaul of the structure.
The scene was listed under control at approximately 03:47 a.m. and the last units cleared at approximately 06:21 a.m. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall's Office.
