Residential Structure Fire Started By a Child

Fire attack was initiated with 3 handlines and knockdown of the fire was quickly accomplished.

Portsmouth,Virginia Firefighters were dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire at 0722 hours, January 24, 2007. First arriving companies found a 2 story wood frame dwelling well involved with fire that was extending into an exposure. Fire attack was initiated with 3 handlines and knockdown of the fire was quickly accomplished.

A total of 24 Firefighters responded on 5 companies including B1, E1, E2, L1,E11,S4 and EMS units. The fire was started by a child playing with a lighter. All occupants escaped safely prior to arrival of fire units.
