On Monday, January 1,2007 at 2:45 am in Dalton, Georgia the Whitfield County Fire Department was dispatched to a possible house fire at 1803 DeJournette Drive, just outside the Dalton City limits. When the first engine company arrived on the scene, they reported a fully involved single story residential structure fire. Firefighters quickly pulled an inch and 3/4 hose line and initiated a primary attack on the blaze. Crews requested the next due engine to bring a supply line from a nearby fire hydrant.
Several additional companies arrived on the scene within minutes and started assisting with fire suppression. Firefighters met with a rather difficult obstacle right away when they found the structure had a double roof. The fire had seated itself between the roofs making fire attack nearly impossible. However, firefighters were able to gain access to the second roof and extinguish the fire in about 30 minutes.
The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire, but crews did make a complete search early in the attack efforts. The search was due to a report from a neighbor, stating someone may be inside. There were no other reports of any injuries in connection with the fire. Firefighters were able to completely extinguish the fire and hot spots after about 2 hours. The home was considered a total loss. A cause of the fire is still under investigation.
