On Friday, June 4, 2004 approximately 2115 Conroe, Texas firefighters responded to a building fire in the downtown area. On arrival it was immediately requested a second alarm with a third not far behind. The building built in the 40's housed attorney's offices and was also being restored. Over the years an additional floor was added to the building over the old tar roof. Within a very short period of time due to the structural soundness of the building the firefighters went to defensive mode.
Next to this building separated by a one foot air space was another attorney's office which was a major concern and to the rear a 3 story office building. Both sustained very minor damage. Six hours later the fire was brought under control. No injuries. Departments as far away as N. Houston responded. Houston is 45 miles south of Conroe.
