Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday November 15 the City of Newburgh received a street box for the corner of Clinton & Liberty. As equipment was enroute numerous phone calls were received by dispatchers reporting a warehouse fire.
Car 4 (Duty Chief) transmitted the 2nd alarm while enroute due to a large plume of smoke visible, upon arriving on scene Car 4 reported a 2 story warehouse well involved. Additional mutual aid was requested from Orange Coounty. Stewart Air Guard responded with a FAST Team, Good Will FD responded with an Engine and Cornwall FD with a Ladder.
Incident command ordered an exterior attack due to the fact that the building showed early signs of collapse. 3 Ladderpipes were placed into service along with numerous handlines. The buildings roof and north wall collapsed within 30 minutes. The fire was contained within an hour but firefighters remained for extensive overhaul operations.
Several firefighters were treated for minor injuries. The cause of the fire which destroyed the warehouse remains under investigation by the City of Newburgh Cause and Origin team.
