At 11:44 AM on Friday, June 4, the Lexington, Kentucky Fire Department responded to a report of a construction equipment fire at 741 South Limestone Street.

Construction crews working to complete the University of Kentucky's new Biological Sciences Building had been using a Ditch Witch to dig a trench for electrical wiring when they struck a natural gas line. A fire ensued and one worker was burned.

Fire crews were able to shut off the gas at the valve and then extinguish the still-burning Ditch Witch.
