Fire in 18th Century Connecticut Home Sends Two Firefighters to Hospital

The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co. was alerted to a structure fire on Tuesday, May 11th at 1524 hours. Upon arrival, we found a 18th century house with heavy smoke pouring from the structure.

The house was owned by a Connecticut State House Representative. Eight fire departments responded along with 3 ambulances. Over 100 firefighters battled the blaze in 90 degree weather. Two firefighters were sent to the hospital for injuries and smoke inhalation and many others were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
The fire department did not clear the scene until 7 hours later at 2230 hours. The house was completely destroyed along with many valuable antiques that the homeowner collected for over 45 years when she lived there.
