On May 26, 2004 at 10:28 AM, the Frankfort Fire District (located 15 southwest of Chicago's Southside) was dispatched by a passing motorist of a condo building on fire. Frankfort's still alarm companies were 2 engines (711 & 721), 1 ALS ambulance (734), 1 squad (716), 1 duty chief (703), Tinley Park tower ladder (292), and engines from Mokena Fire District (12) and Richton Park Fire Department (27) for a total of 24 members.
While enroute, dispatch gave the information of "multiple calls" and Duty Chief Bob Wilson (703) requested a "full still assignment" due to visual smoke in the distance bringing in a truck from Peotone Fire District, tower ladder from Orland Fire District, heavy rescue (R.I.T.) from Manhattan Fire District, ambulance from Monee along with Frankfort chief 701, Mokena chief 6600 and Orland Battalion 1
While enroute to the scene, 703 requested a "box alarm assignment" bringing in 3 engines, 1 truck, 1 squad, 4 chiefs, 1 ambulance and command van.
Engine 721 was the first due engine and on arrival deployed a 2 1/2" handline to attack the fire, 2nd due engine 711 dropped their skid load and leadout to another hydrant, and then attacked with another 2 1/2" line. Mokena engine 12 leadout to the rear in a tight courtyard and deployed an 1 3/4" line to the second floor of an adjoining unit and breached the wall to attack the fire on the second floor. Tinley Park tower opened the roof.
The fire was brought under control under 1 hour.
