At approximately 12:30 on Oct 31, 2006 the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue, in Suffolk, Virginia, were dispatched to a propane truck on fire at 1503 Holland Road. Upon arrival the first units reported heavy fire coming from the Best Western Hotel at that same location. The propane truck that was initially involved in the fire was quickly moved to a safe location.
Fire moved rapidly through the structure and spread to the attic area. Once the fire reached the attic it traveled the distance of the building. Fire crews were able to get in front of the fire and bring it under control.
It took Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue units two hours to get the fire under control. Two civilians suffered burns, one is critical and the other is serious. One fire fighter received a minor injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
