At 16:15 hours, Buffalo Fire Dispatch received numerous phone calls reporting a house fire at 99 Jones Street.
Engines 35, 32, 3, Trucks 15, 5 and 10, the Rescue and B-43 Battalion Chief Cunningham were dispatched at 1616 hours.
Engine 35 arrived with heavy fire in the rear of a vacant 2.5 story frame dwelling. They stretched a 1-3/4" line and began an attack on the fire.
Engine 32 arrived and laid out a feed to Engine 35, then proceeded to take another line in.
Engine 3 arrived and dropped two 2.5" lines to cover the exposures and went to a hydrant. Truck 15 and 5 began horizontal and vertical ventilation as lines were advanced.
After some water problems, an additional Engine 25 and Truck 2 were dispatched at 1622 hours to join in the fight.
The #4 exposure suffered some damage from the radiant heat.
After darkening down the fire outside, Engine 3 advanced a handline into the second floor and began to knockdown the fire there. Engine 35 took their line to the attic and knocked down all extension.
An additional Truck (14) was special called to replace the FAST Truck, which was put to opening up of the rear of the house.
The fire was placed under control in about 30 minutes, however crews remained on the scene for almost two hours overhauling.
B-56 Deputy Chief Coates had command of the fire. An emergency demolition was requested, and the Fire Marshals were on location pursuing leads.
