On July 29 at 5:13 p.m., the Osage Beach, Mo. Fire Protection District was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of US Hwy 54 & State Route A. The 1st Alarm assignment consisted of Osage Beach Engines 122, 112 and an Osage Beach Chief Officer (101), Camdenton Engine 311 and Lake Ozark Ladder 21.
Engine 122 (under the command of Capt. Karl Blankenbeker) arrived and reported a 1 story, 12' x 60' mobile home with smoke and fire showing from the middle of the structure. Capt. Blankenbeker initiated ICS as his crews prepared for fire attack. Water Tender 133 (staffed by off duty personnel) arrived immediately thereafter.
Deputy Chief Terry Paul arrived shortly thereafter and assumed command of fire ground operations. Engine 112 was assigned vertical ventilation and to conduct a primary/secondary. Engine 311 was assigned to establish a water supply and assist interior crews. Due to limited access, Ladder 21 was advised to stage.
An aggressive interior attack contained the fire to the area of origin and had a knockdown within 10 minutes. The remainder of the home suffered heat and smoke damage.
Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.
The lone occupant of the residence awoke and discovered the fire. He was able to escape without injury prior to the arrival of fire units. He is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
