On Aug. 3, shortly after 12 p.m., Wicomico County, Md. Central alerted Station 6 (Parsonsburg) for a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Hobbs Road and Ocean Gateway (US Route 50) Westbound.
There were several conflicting calls as to number of vehicles and patients. A Wicomico County Sherriff's Deputy arrived on the scene and confirmed two to three vehicles involved with one to three patients, at least one Priority 1.
Based on this information, Parsonsburg's Lieutenant. J.T. Tyler (6-20) immediately requested two additional medic units to respond. Upon his arrival Lieutenant Tyler established incident command and found patients trapped in a Subaru Impreza.
With that, he made another request for requested Rescue 16 from Salisbury to assist his company. Paramedic A.6 arrived and began evaluating all patients, including the driver of a Jeep Wrangler also involved. Command was informed of a total of two Priority 1 patients, one with a hip fracture; and a Priority 3 patient who is also pregnant. Salisbury's Deputy Chief 1 (Hoppes) was assigned Operations and supervised crews from Rescue Engine 604 and Rescue 16 as they removed the roof of the Subaru.
The patient was extricated and transported at 12:44 and the scene was cleared at 1:02 p.m. Fire Police shut down one lane of Route 50 during the incident.
