Firefighters from the Alamance, N.C. Community Fire Department, Guilford County Squad 50, and the Greensboro Fire Department received valuable training during a live burn exercise in a 130-year-old house originally built as a log cabin.
Several additions and renovations to the structure over the years proved a challenge for firefighters as the fire continued to find pathways to the second floor and attic area throughout the day. The historic residence is being razed to make room for a new fire station and therefore was conveniently located across the street from the existing station, which at seventy years old is quite historic itself.
Alamance firefighters have been training in the house for several months prior to the June 21st burn, covering many areas such as RIT, hose handling, search, ladder, overhaul and ventilation. The proximity of the structure to the fire station had created a temporary quazi-training facility that will be missed.
