On June 10 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Santa Rosa, Calif. Fire Department received a report of a structure fire on Valley West Court with a person trapped on the second floor.
Responding units reported a large column of black smoke from several blocks away. First arriving unit, Engine 2, reported a fully involved two-story single family dwelling with everyone out. Upon his arrival, Battalion 7 requested a second alarm assignment which brought an additional three engines and a truck.
With temperatures in the mid-90s, low humidity and a moderate north wind, flames quickly involved the home and threatened homes on either side. Flames spread across the front and rear lawns of the involved home and its neighbor to the west. Crews limited the spread of the flames to scorched paint and curled roofing of the second home.
At one point flames shot out of the second floor bedroom almost 30 feet.
It took six engines, two truck companies, a mutual aid air unit and 35 fire fighters to contain the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is suspected that the fire started from on the outside of the home. The American Red Cross aided the displaced three adults.
