Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Fire District firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 2:50 a.m., Thursday, May 22.
Upon arrival they encountered a fully involved historic home that was under major renovation. The exposure B side included a 66 kv power pole with fire from top to bottom, several large trees were burning on the exposure C side and an occupied dwelling was threatened on the D side. First arriving units protected the D side exposure and set up an aerial stream to knock down the bulk of the fire.
Twenty-three firefighters staffing five engines, a ladder truck, rescue and medic squad, including the Battalion Chief and Inspector responded and brought the fire under control in 30 minutes with no damage to the adjacent dwelling.
The building of origin was a total loss. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Rancho Cucamonga station alerted neighbors and closed surrounding streets prior to the fire department's arrival. Utility companies were brought to the scene to assess damage to their equipment.
There were no reported injuries. Fire investigators, including Rancho Cucamonga's Canine Accelerant Detection Team and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson detectives, were on scene and deemed the fire to be of suspicious origin. The investigation is continuing.
