Minneapolis firefighters kept a roaring fire from spreading to a nearby business and apartment building in the busy Uptown neighborhood on Dec. 28.
The fire quickly escalted to three alarms as it spread throught the three-story condominium complex. Firefighters assisted several occupants from the building before the rapidly spreading fire forced crews to retreat from the structure.
Once outside, firefighter used elevated master streams, portable master streams and handlines and fire raged throughout the structure.
Crews protected a one-story commercial building only five feet from the east side of the building and an apartment building separated by a five-foot alley on the west side.
The fire shutdown several major intersections for hours and the fire was brought under control about two hours later. Several floors and walls collapsed before crews left the scene.
The fire started when an occupant left burning candles unattended on the first floor.
