Seven Detroit units responded to this fully involved house on Jan. 14.
At 11:03 p.m. the Detroit Communications Center put out a box alarm assignment for Engines 34 and 42, Ladder 22, Squad 4 and Battalion Chief 5.
Squad 4 said that they could see the fire while responding and reported that a vacant two-story home was well involved on the second floor.
Engine 34 reported that they were stretching and Squad 4 asked for a third engine for manpower and eng 39 was dispatched at 23:09 hrs. Battalion 5 asked for a rapid intervention company and Ladder 7 was dispatched.
After 20 minutes of an interior attack the crews were withdrawn when the roof started to collapse.
An exterior attack was mounted using ladder 22's aerial pipe and multiple handlines. Additional 2 1/2-inch handlines were used to protect the exposures.
